A new generation of exploration

Let’s pioneer what’s next.

We explore the unknown to expand science and art, elevate human potential, and create a future worth inheriting.

Why now

The frontiers of our time are no longer only out there.

They are within our systems, our knowledge, our imagination and our ways of living. Exploration becomes a public force: a way to expand knowledge, open imagination and shape futures worth inheriting.

The spirit of exploration has always moved humanity forward. It gives us the courage to cross thresholds, connect distant worlds and turn uncertainty into shared possibility.

Technological acceleration

New tools are transforming how we think, create and act.

Ecological disruption

The world demands new ways of inhabiting the planet.

Cultural fragmentation

Disciplines, generations and visions need to reconnect.

Human potential

Exploration expands courage, curiosity and collective imagination.

The name

More than a translation.

“Compagnie des Nouveaux Explorateurs” is the association’s original French name. “The New Explorers” is its international expression, but the French name says more.

“Compagnie” evokes a fellowship, a crew and a shared journey: a collective adventure shaped by a common desire to venture beyond familiar territories. It also echoes the historical companies of exploration and navigation, such as the Compagnie des Indes, which carried the ambition to open routes, connect worlds and go beyond the known.

Here, this legacy is not understood as conquest, but as a symbol of audacity, movement and collective exploration. The New Explorers are those who venture into the frontiers of our time: science, technology, ecology, culture, art, society and new ways of living together.

The Compagnie des Nouveaux Explorateurs brings them together as a living laboratory and a shared vessel for a journey into the unknown: imagining, testing and opening new paths for humanity.

CAST

The Council for Arts, Sciences and Technologies.

Within the Compagnie des Nouveaux Explorateurs, CAST brings together pioneering figures from complementary disciplines and backgrounds, united by a shared conviction: tomorrow’s great explorations will emerge at the crossroads of knowledge, imagination and experience.

Scientists, artists, adventurers, researchers and innovators bring their perspectives into dialogue to push back the boundaries of the known, reveal new territories for exploration, and foster new ways of understanding, creating and taking action.

Conceived as a space for dialogue, inspiration and new ideas, the Council supports the Compagnie des Nouveaux Explorateurs in shaping its vision and helps champion a contemporary approach to exploration: more transdisciplinary, more open, and resolutely focused on possible futures.

“Space exploration compels us to imagine what does not yet exist. Exploring space means opening up new territories, but also inventing new ways of thinking about them and inhabiting them.”
Yann Gouttenoire

Yann Gouttenoire

Theoretical physicist at the Institut d’Astrophysique de Paris (IAP), working at the intersection of cosmology and particle physics

“My research focuses on the very first moments of the Universe, an era that shaped everything that exists today, and whose laws of nature still elude us. I explore the traces it left behind: dark matter, gravitational waves and primordial black holes, in an effort to trace our origins.”

Visual artist working at the intersection of art and science

“My artistic practice stems from observing natural phenomena and from the poetry I find in science. I am interested in what science makes perceptible beyond the reach of our own eyes, and in the representations of the world that emerge from it.”

PhD in neuroscience, specializing in the development of biotechnology solutions for space

“From the cell to orbit, each new environment reveals another facet of life. Exploration means testing our hypotheses against reality in order to push back the boundaries of knowledge. Exploration is dwelling in that twilight between what is known and what is possible.”
Lucile Soussan

Visual artist and explorer of the living world, working at the intersection of art, science and ecology

“To explore is to learn to see the living world differently. At the intersection of art and science, I seek to reveal the invisible connections that bind species, environments and their memories together. Drawing these fragile ecosystems is an attempt to grasp their complexity, but also to inspire a desire to observe, understand and preserve them.”

Eco-explorer and solar pilot, pioneering an approach to exploration that respects the planet

“Being a pioneer means using exploration to demonstrate that new paths are possible. Through my expeditions, I seek to reveal the full potential of renewable energy and develop new ways of travelling that are more respectful of our planet’s future.”

Colour expert working at the crossroads of science, innovation and creativity

“To explore is, first and foremost, to learn to see differently, to accept getting lost, and to question oneself. For me, colour is a territory where science, perception, and creation come together. By bringing different perspectives into dialogue and questioning what seems to be taken for granted, difficulties cease to be obstacles: they become opportunities to experiment, invent, and open up new paths.”

Art historian

“In founding La Compagnie des Nouveaux Explorateurs / The New Explorers, we wanted to create a space where perspectives come together, disciplines engage in dialogue, and experiences are shared. Changing the way we see things means considering them together, opening up new possibilities, and imagining new responses to the unprecedented challenges of our time.”

Diskay

Now playing — Arpento, Diskay

Some explorations are travelled. Others are heard.

With Arpento, Diskay opens up a sonic territory shaped by movement, rhythm and imagination.

We chose this track because it shares the spirit of New Explorers: venturing beyond established paths, experimenting, and opening up new territories.

Arpento echoes the French verb arpenter, to roam, to survey, to explore a territory step by step. A fitting name for a track that turns listening itself into a form of exploration.

“To me, exploring through sound means venturing into the unknown, following an intuition without knowing exactly where it will lead. With Arpento, I wanted to explore sound as a territory, something you can roam through, get lost in, and experience in your own way.”— Diskay

Arpento is more than a soundtrack, it is a new territory to discover.
